The small project at Newhaven Road in Edinburgh is another excellent example of a bespoke design of an extension incorporated into the existing fabric of a building, helping to link garden and family areas of the main house. Large slappings at ground floor of the two-storey house combined with the full removal of one half of the kitchen annex created a light and open space. The extension is primarily a timber frame with some steel strengthening added to allow longer clear spans, with roof lights and careful integration of structural planes necessary to allow the large glazed rear wall and airy internal spaces.
The design won the Edinburgh Architectural Association's Small Project Award 2009.
