Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award 2008
October 2008
The Practice is delighted to have worked on three of the eleven projects short listed for the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, famously the largest architectural cash prize in the UK. Organised by the RIAS, the winner will be announced on 7 November at a Scottish Parliament ceremony. RIAS president, Arnie Dunn, commented, "Short-listing eleven out of this year's varied and excellent submissions was no easy task. It has already been noted that Scotland is enjoying a creative renaissance and that is undoubtedly true of its architecture. This year's entries range throughout the length and breadth of Scotland and our shortlist reflects the high standards being achieved in every contemporary building type and in restoration."
Todlaw Supported Housing
We were pleased to work with Oliver Chapman Architects on this project for Berwickshire Housing Association. The development provides 14 semi-detached houses and a shared services facility for people with disabilities at Duns. The project won the RIBA Award 2008, Commendations in Scottish Design Awards 2008 and EAA Award 2008 and Community Care Excellence Award 2008.
Tigh na Dobhran, Arduaine
The Practice was delighted to have worked with Studio KAP Architects on the design of this family house overlooking Loch Melfort. The house is situated on the beach with wonderful views from the cantilevered sitting room to the South, to Jura and Islay.
Culloden Visitor Centre
We are proud to have been working with Gareth Hoskins Architects on such a prestigious project, the largest the National Trust for Scotland has ever undertaken. The project was short listed for the 2008 RIBA Awards and is also one of four Scottish buildings to be short listed for the inaugural World Architecture Festival Award.
