A semi-derelict workshop and office building transformed into a beautiful four-bedroom house. The new space was built and designed within a confined urban context in the backcourts of a Glasgow tenement block.
The ground floor accommodates the open plan kitchen, dining and living area with patio doors leading to a private walled garden. Natural lighting illuminates the ground floor through high level glazing on the southern boundary, a rooflight to the eastern edge and a glazed first floor landing.
Four bedrooms and the family bathroom are found on the first floor positioned around a double-height hall featuring a large rooflight. The first floor was extended and now cantilevers to prevent direct view into the living area from other tenements. Overall, the restoration of the property successfully converted a dark and damp building into a light and contemporary home.
