A mill conversion designed by WT Architecture in the shell of a dilapidated threshing mill in the Scottish Borders. The project involved slotting a new timber structure inside the existing walls. The lack of cross walls resulted in some discreet augmentation with steel portal frames and cross bracing to create the floating offset living spaces to the downslope gable end.
The introduction of clerestory glazing at the gables and along the eaves of the upper floor bring light into each space along with framed views at set points throughout the structure.
Completed in 2014, the Mill appeared on Channel 4's 'Grand Designs' programme as part of the RIBA House of the Year 2015 awards and is featured in the finale to the series. The show remains accessible to UK viewers via the Channel 4 website.
